Research Peptide Payment Compliance: Keeping a Merchant Account Open
The compliance standards acquirers hold research peptide and research chemical merchants to: product rules, labelling, marketing, customer qualification, descriptor and dispute management — and how to stay inside them.
Compliance is what keeps the account open
Getting approved is the first half. Research peptide and research chemical merchant accounts are monitored continuously — by the acquirer, by card-brand programmes and increasingly by automated web review. Most terminations after approval are compliance drift: a new product, a new marketing campaign, a new affiliate, a rising dispute ratio. This guide sets out the standards and how to hold them.
1. Product rules
- Only compounds lawful to sell in every market served. Check before adding a SKU, not after.
- No FDA-approved or prescription drugs, no clinical-stage drug analogues sold for use, no scheduled substances.
- True compound names on every product, label and invoice. Coded names ("GLP-3", colour names) are treated as evasion.
- Third-party COAs per batch, kept on file and available on request.
- A restricted-state and restricted-country list, enforced at checkout and updated when rules change.
2. Labelling and presentation
"For research use only. Not for human or veterinary use." is the legal position and every other element must be consistent with it: no dosing, administration or reconstitution-for-use guidance; no therapeutic, cosmetic, performance or weight-loss framing; no before/after imagery; no testimonials about effects. Storage, handling, purity and research references are appropriate. Underwriters and card-brand reviewers read intended use from the whole site, not from the disclaimer.
3. Marketing and affiliates
- Paid ads and social content are held to the same standard as the website. One influencer post describing results can be the evidence that reclassifies the business.
- Affiliate programmes need written terms prohibiting human-use claims, and monitoring. The merchant is responsible for affiliate content.
- Email campaigns, discount codes and consumer-style promotions ("stack and save") undermine a B2B research position. Keep promotions business-oriented.
- Claims about purity and testing must be supported by the COAs on file.
4. Customer qualification
Acquirers expect evidence that buyers are researchers, institutions or businesses. Practical measures: account approval before first order, a business or institution field at checkout, an attestation of research use and age, and refusal of orders that indicate personal use (for example consumer delivery addresses combined with usage questions to support). Keep records; they are the answer to "who are your customers" at every review.
5. Descriptor, receipts and support
- Billing descriptor matches the brand the customer bought from; receipt email repeats it.
- Support email and phone answered within a stated time; a route to a human before a cardholder calls their bank.
- Refund and cancellation policy applied as written. Refunds processed to the original card, promptly.
6. Dispute management
- Enrol in chargeback alert services so disputes can be refunded before they count against the ratio.
- Track the ratio weekly against the acquirer's threshold (commonly under 1% of transactions, with card-brand programmes at lower levels of count and ratio).
- Respond to every dispute with evidence: order, tracking, policy acceptance, correspondence.
- Investigate patterns — product, country, card BIN, affiliate — and fix the source rather than only fighting the symptoms.
7. Privacy, data and security
- Privacy policy appropriate to the market (CCPA/CPRA for US customers, GDPR for EU), naming the processor and any tracking.
- Reconsider ad pixels and session recording on a sensitive-category store; several acquirers flag them.
- Hosted fields or hosted checkout to stay in PCI SAQ A scope; no card data stored.
8. Change control
Before adding a product, launching a campaign, changing the descriptor, moving platform or opening a new market, check it against the acquirer's terms. Most acquirers want to be told about material changes in advance; surprising them is how accounts close. KLAUDE reviews changes with merchants it has placed, and the free readiness review can be re-run on a live account before a major change.
Research chemical merchants
Everything above applies to research chemical suppliers more broadly. The additional points are scheduling (controlled-substance analogue rules vary by jurisdiction), hazardous-goods shipping compliance and, for some chemicals, licensing. The category is narrower than peptides in acquirer appetite, and the application must be exact about every compound.
For how these standards shape the application itself, see the requirements guide and the peptide merchant accounts page.

Questions
Can I publish research citations on product pages?
Research references are consistent with research use. Summarising a study as an expected effect for the buyer is not. Keep the framing scientific and avoid implying outcomes.
Is an "I am a researcher" checkbox enough?
It is the minimum. Account approval, business fields and order review are stronger and are expected by the more selective acquirers.
What happens if my chargeback ratio exceeds the threshold?
The acquirer will require a remediation plan, may raise the reserve or lower the cap, and card-brand programmes add monthly fines. Sustained breaches end the account.
Do these rules apply to research chemical merchant accounts too?
Yes, with additional scheduling, shipping and licensing checks. Acquirer appetite for research chemicals is narrower than for peptides.
